assessment centres

How can the Careers Service help you prepare?

  • Watch an actual assessment centre on line!
(University of Edinburgh Campus PCs only. DVD version available for viewing in our Information Centres)

  • Sign up for "Assessment Centres", a practice session which allows you to experience a range of group exercises used in the second stage of selection by some employers - see the What's going on  section of our website for details.

  • Book an in-tray exercise with a member of the Information team. This usually lasts around 1 hour and involves you working through a paper-based timed exercise followed by feedback. Alternatively, work through the same in-tray exercise online which takes around 20-30 minutes (although the online version is multiple choice so is less demanding). If you can come in to do the paper-based version, we'd encourage you to do so.

  • Watch the AGCAS DVD Selection Success in One (section called The Assessment Centre) available in the Information Centres.

  • Read the advice written specifically for University of Edinburgh students and graduates. This can be consulted below or printed as a PDF*(20 pages). The information is also contained in a booklet entitled Successful Interviews which is available to takeaway from the Careers Service
