| Students/graduates often ask - 'what can I do with my degree?'.
Generally the answer is 'lots of things' as many jobs are open to graduates
of any discipline.
If you are looking for ideas about what to do with your degree you might
want to look at the information below.
What can you do with your degree?

and our annual Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education report.

have done for the last 3 years (we collect this data every year).

approximately six months after graduation of first-degree, Masters and
doctoral graduates who graduated from Scottish Higher Education institutions
in 2005.

What can you do with your degree?
When you choose to study a vocational subject such as law or engineering,
you are likely to have some ideas about the type of work directly related
to your degree.
However, if you are taking a course in an arts/humanities subject, you may
feel your options for what to do next are less well defined. (If you are
in this position you may find it useful to look at our online
career
planning programme) In both cases there are many jobs directly and indirectly
related to your degree, as well as jobs open to graduates of "any discipline".
What are recent graduates doing with their degrees?
It is always interesting to discover what graduates from previous
years have gone on to do after graduation. Overall around 66% take up jobs
in the UK and abroad, 23% enter full-time study or training, 2% are doing
voluntary work and 5% are "not available for employment", most
of whom have taken time out to travel. Around 4% are believed to be unemployed
six months after graduation (2006/2007 survey).
You can see our most recent survey of graduate destinations (from the
University of Edinburgh) here.

What Do Graduates Do? [Scotland]
Aims to provide information about the destinations approximately six months
after graduation of first-degree, Masters and doctoral graduates who
graduated from Scottish Higher Education institutions in 2005.
The information outlines those who are in work (including what type of
work), those undertaking various forms of further study, or who are
unemployed. WDGD Scotland looks at the picture for Scotland regardless of
course of study, but also breaks it down by subject area (or ‘faculty’ for
the postgraduate sections).
In addition, articles are included to help the reader gain a better
understanding of the regional economies around Scotland, the impact of
gaining a degree and how students can get the most out of their degree in
the future.
